Keeping your stone like new...

Your stone has been carefully selected for its color, shape, and most of all, its quality. Throughout the carving process, we have inspected it thoroughly for imperfections. After completion, your stone was tested to ensure that no cracks or excessive water absorption problems exist. All stones absorb water, some more readily than others. Therefore, to maintain an acceptable water level in your stone, it may be necessary to add water periodically. This is a natural process, but can be reduced by applying a water sealer on all surfaces of your stone when this condition occurs. We use and recommend Thompson’s Water Seal.

Your stone has already been treated twice with Thompson’s Water Seal. We do, however, recommend that you do this once a year.

1. Let your stone COMPLETELY dry out. A couple days in a garage is usually sufficient.

2. Coat the all sides of the stone, especially the bowl.

3. Let the stone dry inside for another day.

4. Your stone is now ready for another year.

5. If your stone still seems to absorb a lot of water, repeat as needed.

If your stone gets discolored with green or brown algae, pour straight chlorine bleach into the bowl. Let it sit for a few hours, then rinse completely with water. (What works best is granular chlorine, found where swimming pool chemicals are carried, also called Shock Treatment. This runs $1 - $2 per bag.)

Although our smaller stones hold water, they are intended to be used as feeders. Because of the small quantity of water the stone holds, it may appear that the stone does not hold water. This condition exists primarily because of the evaporation and to some extent the absorption of the stone. This condition cannot be corrected and the stone will have to be filled more often if you wish to use it as a watering stone.

Ownership of one of our stones should be a pleasure and something to be proudly displayed in your lawn or garden. If you should encounter any problems or have any suggestions of any kind, let us know. Never hesitate to call or speak with us.
