Your stone has been carefully selected for its color, shape, and most of
all, its quality. Throughout the carving process, we have inspected it
thoroughly for imperfections. After completion, your stone was tested to ensure
that no cracks or excessive water absorption problems exist. All stones absorb
water, some more readily than others. Therefore, to maintain an acceptable water
level in your stone, it may be necessary to add water periodically. This is a
natural process, but can be reduced by applying a good quality water sealer on all surfaces
of your stone when this condition occurs.
Your stone has already been treated twice with a water sealer. We
do, however, recommend that you continue to do this once a year.
1. Let your stone COMPLETELY dry out. A couple days in a garage is
usually sufficient.
2. Coat the all sides of the stone, especially the bowl.
3. Let the stone dry inside for another day.
4. Your stone is now ready for another year.
5. If your stone still seems to absorb a lot of water, repeat as
needed.
If your stone gets discolored with green or brown algae, pour straight
chlorine bleach into the bowl. Let it sit for a few hours, then rinse completely
with water. (What works best is granular chlorine, found where swimming pool
chemicals are carried, also called Shock Treatment. This runs $1 - $2 per bag.)
